Well I realise that I promised many exciting updates from the Edinburgh festival, and you actually got none. Apologies for that, but the festival ended up being so hectic, and my IT skills so inadequate, that it didn’t happen. Please forgive me.
Edinburgh was great fun. Leesa, my wife, was pregnant and came up with our first son to see me. She then thought she was going into labour on several occasions which was hugely entertaining and did not lead to anybody having panic attacks at all.
“Three Blokes Tell Jokes” was good fun, with lovely audiences despite the lunchtime kick off. “Big Value” was also a lovely gig to play, and The Caves are a great venue.
On one occasion, I was collecting some flyers for Big Value from the Caves, when a delivery driver approached me to tell me that he had a delivery for “Mother India” restaurant and could I sign for it? Now, one of two things could have happened here. Either the driver thought he recognised me as one of the staff, or the policy is to just get any random dude that looks like he could work there to sign off the delivery. If I learned anything from this experience, it was probably how to shift half a tonne of mango chutney quickly and for a decent price.
I did a fair number of other gigs while I was in Edinburgh. One of the most enjoyable of these was “Stand Up Comedy For Kids” at The Bongo for Tiernan Douieb. I can’t remember the last time I was so nervous about a gig, but the kids were great and Iain Stirling was an incredible compere. Matt Green also delivered a great set.
Since I have got back, Leesa decided that she would have the baby after all. This has obviously kept us busy, particularly as the little fella seems to be completely nocturnal. I do try and help, but my inability to lactate has meant that he is not that keen for us to hang out. What is excellent, however, is that every time Leesa is breastfeeding, our older son shouts “Look he’s eating booby!”. Obviously, this is hilarious each and every time it happens.
